1. Go above and beyond the norm – You’ve likely heard of the old adage that the customer is always right. That said do all you can to meet the needs of clients and then some. While they may not always be right, do all you can to make them happy. Keep in mind that happy customers tend to come back again and again. They also oftentimes will refer a specific business to family and friends. That means you can end up landing some more business if everything falls nicely into place. See what extra you can do for clients. That is so that you gave it your best shot to make them happy be it in person, on the phone or online.

2. Have the best products – Depending on the type of small business you have, you may have few or many products. Say for example you run a chiropractor’s office, massage business, spa or similar. Odds are your clients will be spending part of their time with you on a spa table. Make sure you have the best in spa tables to offer your clients each time they come in for an appointment. You want them leaving knowing you gave them the treatment they needed and they will likely be back again.

3. Hire the best staff – Unless you work on your own, it is important to hire the best staff. Keep in mind that your employees are oftentimes the first people to come in contact with clients. As a result, you want to be sure the former are doing all they can to meet the needs of clients. Have periodic meetings with your staff to go over what is expected of them. Also use client feedback to improve the efforts of your employees moving ahead.

4. See what competitors are doing – It never hurts to see what your competition is up to. That said you could pick up a few tips from how they go about treating their clients. You may or may not be on close terms with the competition. If the former, it never hurts to have a few chats with them. That is especially as it relates to giving clients what they most need.

5. Never forget to say thank you – Finally, always make it a point to thank your clients for their business. Even though you are getting paid, it is key that clients know you appreciate them and their business.
